Need help choosing the right home loan?

Home Buying Checklist

We know from our own experience and that of our customers, buying a property can be overwhelming and without direction and support you may feel confused about where to start. We have put together a checklist to make sure you don’t overlook any of the important items.

General checks

  • Location, location, location.
  • How close is it to work / CBD Is it accessible for public transport?
  • Do you want to move into a newly constructed home or an older one to renovate?
  • What local amenities are most important to you? Shops? Parks? Cinemas? Restaurants?
  • Do you want a house or unit?
  • Off street parking availability
  • Number of bedrooms – are you planning to have kids?
  • What features of the house are essential? En-suite? Backyard?
  • Do you want a large garden or a swimming pool? Or both?

Property checks

  • The strucutural features such as foundations, dampness or cracks in the walls.
  • Is there any part of the property that hangs over a neighbouring home.
  • Do all of the electricity switches work?
  • Pest inspections: are there any signs of pests in the property. This can be checked by a pest control expert who can clear the property of pests.
  • Is there construction in the vicinity of your property: If there is construction in close proximity of your home, get a 'Status Report' of the construction. This may allow you to claim for damages that occur to your home due to the construction. 
  • Check the boundaries: Make sure that the boundaries of the property match that of the title. This is a great time to check if any of your fences are also shared with a neighbour.
